01. Basics about carburetor repair

Keyster Carburetor Parts produces since more than 40 years carburetor parts for japanese Old- and Youngtimer. Made in Japan. These are no tuning parts. All parts only replace the original part. That means no licensure changes are necessary, also no ABE etc.

  • You should have all adjustment data handy. Float level should be newly adjusted if possible.
  • You should eliminate all other sources of error. Ignition, compression, valve clearance, air filter, spark plugs and connectors, cabling, etc ...
  • Fuel tank should be stainless inside or equipped with a good gas-filter. The sieve inside the tank is not sufficient enough if there is rust in the tank.
  • It should be exactly reviewed what kind of carburetor is installed. Often it is not sufficient to install replacement parts only according to licensure.

During time there could be carburetors installed which are from other construction years, from abroad, or else. Visually not identifiable. The problem is: e.g. at the Z900/Z1000 model series for 3 years the VM26 carburetor with 3 different needle jets / jet needles / main jets / slow jets have been sold. Often the VM28 carburetor has been used and then nothing fits together. The same at Honda CB750four, from K1 to F1 there were 4 different needle jets / jet needles / main jets / slow jets combinations with different jet needle positions. This means: First check then get parts.

02. Carburetor overflow

  • adjust float level
  • worn float chamber valve and/or carb float needle box
  • carb float defect
  • dirt
  • rust inside the tank
  • carburetor defect (pressed-in brass socket leaky / worn / pitting)

03. Keyster float chamber gasket too big after usage?

  • Keyster gaskets should always be pasted in. The originals are pasted in as well.
  • Since 2008 we began to change over all rubber mixtures, so that those problems never occur even if not pasted in.
  • With problems of this kind simply mail us, we will send you replacements for free.

04. Carburetor runs too thick or too thin after revision?

  • check float level
  • check jet needle position, is it suitable to the carburetor? Also see #01
  • air filter clean?
  • carb holder leaks, false air.

05. New Motorradbay diaphragm damaged after 4 weeks?

  • Too much glue used.
  • Delivered glue serves for fixation, not for sealing.
  • Glue hardens, if glue gets on moving parts of the diaphragm it breaks sooner or later.
  • Tell us, we give you replacements. Send us the slider. We assemble a new diaphragm. Nominal fee 10,- Euro / diaphragm.

06. Motorcycle gets no fuel after revision?

  • Float level wrong
  • Petcock bunged up, rust/dirt inside the tank
  • Fuel hose buckled
  • Tank empty ;-)

07. Nothing fits from those Keyster Kits ...?

  • wrong carburetor
  • wrong Kits
  • Tell us, we care about it, free replacement no matter what reason.
  • Replacement delivery or money back, as the customer chooses, shipping costs refunded. That's fantastic isn't it?

08. I can't contact Motorradbay on telephone ...?

Simply send us an E-mail.

09. Difference between diaphragm and librane ...?

  • Diaphragm = alike the original and both synthetic rings are further turned to account [ click here ]
  • Librane = simple patented change-system. The upper and lower synthetic ring is not longer necessary because it is integrated in the new librane [ click here ]

10. I have some O-Rings left and don't know where to put them ...?

  • Since Keyster produces for the world market it may occur that identical models with accelerator pump or without accelerator pump have been delivered. If there are too many O-Rings it means normally that they are for identical US-models with accelerator pump, e.g. CB or Z models.
  • Repair Kit fits with various other models and some O-Rings are not always needed.

11. Jet needle article description doesn't match?

  • Due to lawful reasons Keyster is not allowed to use the original designation. But this is alright because it means that Keyster parts can always be distinguished from original parts. A reference list will be created and can be found in the shop at the respective model. E.g. original Mikuni jet needle description 5Z1 = complies with Keyster jet needle description Y264, original Keihin jet needle 272003 = complies with Keyster jet needle description D27.
  • Always collate and do not blindly assemble, see #01

12. I heard Keyster carburetor parts are no good!

  • Well, what could I say then ... ;-)
  • Keyster produces carburetors for more than 40 years and Keyster is still in business ;-)
  • With such a big throughput problems can occur sometimes. By experience problems can be solved up to 90% at the telephone. First rule: always compare and if not sure always ask. Otherwise see #01 and #15

13. There are missing parts in the Keyster Kit.

  • Please compare with the pictures in my shop. These parts should or must be included in the kit. We will send you replacements. Please tell us immediately.
  • If delivery complies with the picture and you think that part -XY- should be absolutely included, please tell us. If possible we will complete those Kits. Thank you.

14. I have no adjustment data.

  • We try to place all offered repair kits including correlative adjustment data at your disposal. Unfortunately it is not quite simple to collect all data. Please help us and send all data which are not put online yet. Float levels, jet needle positions, air/mixture screws positions. Motoradbay and everyone seeking will be grateful.
